The Oregon Trail Community Foundation is operated by the voting members who contribute "voting status donations to the Foundation.

Voting members (as noted in the membership categories below) elect the Board of Directors each year at the Foundation's Annual Meeting, held on the 4th Monday in January.

The Oregon Trail Community Foundation is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(C)(3) charitable organization and as such, donations to the Foundation are tax deductible. Membership dues are considered a donation. Unlike a “for profit” corporation, a foundation has no stockholders. Voting members control the Foundation by electing a slate of directors each year and by occasionally voting to change the “By- Laws.”

Elected Directors meet once every two months to review the financials, approve grants, review investments, etc. The Board of Directors appoints an “Executive Committee” who meets as needed to handle the day-to-day needs of the foundation.

Our membership has grown 37% in 3 years, and it includes numerous leaders in our communities. The integrity and personal successes of our members give the Foundation its validity. To maintain public trust, foundations must have high standards of integrity, honesty and trustworthiness. Donors and their lawyers and accountants must be assured that the foundation will carry out their wishes and carefully preserve their contributions.

The Board of Directors hopes that you will consider becoming a “voting member.” It is the Board’s intention to use most of these “dues” for grant-making in the communities we serve.

A community foundation functions as a method for community members to leave money or assets for the betterment of their community.

Please review the different levels of membership and the benefits of each, and act today by applying for membership. You can apply electronically or by downloading the paper form.
